Spiritual Gifts - What’s in a Name?

Today I have been thinking about all the seers I know and how different each of their gifts are, even when they are described as being similar. Some have one or two abilities or connections, while others are blessed with more.

When I first started out as a spiritual medium, I struggled with what to call myself… what description of my abilities was the best fit? I do see and connect with ghosts and spirits; but I also sometimes see future events or help people with unwanted spirit in their homes or places of business. A medium is a wide ranging term that describes a person who speaks with the dead. My guides or spirits around me often help me see things that may happen in the near future. So, in the end, a spiritual medium is my best fit. I connect with loved ones on the other side to bring messages of love, hope and healing to those left here in this world.

Other titles I could have chosen include:

Clairvoyant - someone who sees future events

Psychic - similar to a medium, it can include telepathy or clairvoyance to see the future.

Channeler - a person who speaks with or for the dead

Spiritualist - a more old fashioned term for a medium

And the list continues…

I don’t really think one specific term fits any person with gifts from the Universe. I do think, regardless of the title each person with gifts uses, that the important thing is for those left in this world that they connect with the right gifted person to receive their messages. Spirit, the Universe, God … whatever connection is correct for you to think of  is always helping us to find that right person when the time is meant to be.

Creativity and Spirit

In addition to my life as a medium, I am also a fibre artist. Today, I spent time in the studio working on combining my two paths of life. I was creating meditation pillows with organic cotton, dried lavender blossoms and golden flax seed. I then take the cover of these beautiful little pillows and hand embroider them with intention. I use Rune and Ogham symbols to fill the pillow with love, strength, joy, or destiny just to name a few ideas from spirit. However spirit directs me, I listen and fill the pillow with that  intention. These pillows have the embroidered intention, along with the sent of lavender that brings serenity, grace and calmness that can aid in helping with headache, anxiety, or sleep.
