A New Path for Divination - Ogham

In the past few days, I have been invited by my mentor and by spirit to learn about a new form of divination. At least, that is to say it is new to me, but actually it derives from an ancient form of Celtic language. I feel strongly drawn to learning more about this divination, it is called Ogham. Ogham is a form of Archaic Irish that dates back possibly as far as the 1st century. Ogham is a written communication possibly based on Latin, that originally told of names and place markers, and is now used as a divination system based on the meanings of 20 different trees native to Britain. The words are written from bottom to top, starting at the left hand side of the writing. As in Latin, there are letters missing from our English alphabet.

As a divination, Ogham used much in the same way as the Elder Futhark Runes are used, though it is less commonly in use by readers. The letters are engraved on staves, or sticks, that are from each type of the 20 trees. The staves can be cast or placed for divination.

This is an ongoing investigation for me… I will write more about this as I continue my research and possibly connect with my own set of staves… Stay tuned :)
